Gail Engel has raised her grandson since he was an infant and adopted him in 2015. She founded the nonprofit Grand Family Coalition, Inc. in Colorado, which provides peer-to-peer support and connects hundreds of families to services. Gail is a valued member of Generations United’s GRAND Voices network of kinship caregiver advocates who have expertise and personal experience as relatives who have raised children when their parents have been unable to raise them. Gail is the recipient of several awards recognizing her advocacy work on behalf of grandfamilies and kinship families. She has held leadership roles in several kinship-related councils and coalitions, including Co-Chair of the Larimer County Alliance for Grandfamilies. Gail has served on the Federal Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, which helps grandparents and other relatives meet the needs of the children in their care and maintain their own physical and mental health and emotional well-being. Gail also serves on the management committee of Generations United’s Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network: A Technical Assistance Center.
